MAIN TRUNK LINE
SUBSIDENCE NORTH OF TAUMARUNUI. EXPRESSES AND OTHER TRAFFIC DELAYED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) , TAUMARUNUI, This Day. Following on the heavy rains of the past week, a subsidence took place last night on the Main Trunk railway between Ongarue and Waione, 17 miles north of Taumarunui. The subsidence is fairly extensive and it is expected that it will take all day to effect repairs. At present engines are unable to cross the subsidence and carriages are being pushed across slowly, engines waiting at either end to take them on.
The express from Auckland was three hours late arriving here last night, and the Limited was two hours late. Trains from Wellington were not held up very long. Goods traffic meanwhile is somewhat delayed.
