KAIPARORO RIFLE CLUB. COMPETITION FOR THE PERCY TROPHY. (‘'Times-Age” Special.) The following were the scores in the competition held for the trophy donated by Mr H. Percy:—

Personal. Mr L. Golder, of Hukanui, is still an inmate of a private hospital. The friends of Mrs W. F. Hirst, of Hukanui, will regret to learn that she has to undergo an operation. Miss C. Welch is spending a few weeks with her parents at Hukanui. The death occurred in Wellington on Thursday of Mr W. G. Shepherd, formerly manager of the drapery department of the Eketahuna branch of the W.F.C.A. A widow and two adult daughters are left to mourn their loss. The late Mr Shepherd had been residing in Napier for some time and was in Wellington under medical treatment, death being due to heart trouble. Women's Institute. At the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Women’s Institute Mrs Carter presided over a fair attendance of members. Roll-call suggestions “How we would spend Boxing Day,’ ’brought forward varied and interesting suggestions. A musical parcel was won by little Diana McAlister, and a balloon game by Miss Mitchell. Christmas carols were sung by those present. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs Brittain and Mrs Burling. Competition winners were: Posy, Mrs Albreqhtsen 1, Mrs Oliver 2, Mrs Wilson 3. Worked calico apron, Mrs L. Burling 1, Mrs Carter 2, Mrs Baucke 3. The meeting was closed with the singing of the New Zealand National Anthem. Scout Jamboree. Today is a great day for Scouts, the annual jamboree of the Wairarapa district being held on the Eketahuna Domain this afternoon. TARARUA CALF JUDGING. EKETAHUNA SUCCESSES. The Pahiatua District High School ground resembled a selection stud yard for calves on Thursday when the Tararua calf judging took place. Eighteen top calves from the Eketahuna district competed with 30 Pahiatua competitors. The judging was carried out by the well-known Woodville breeder, Mr J. Leach, while Messrs G. Brown, president of the Pahiatua Calf Club, and F. Goggin, president of the Eketahuna club, assisted by Messrs Henderson, McKenzie and Slater, secretary, and a busy band of committeemen controlled the various sections in an efficient manner. In the morning the judging of the Pahiatua district was done and in the afternoon the championships were decided. A good attendance witnessed the judging and Mr Brown, president of the Pahiatua club, welcomed the Mayor, Mr S. K. Siddells, who afterwards presented the cups and trophies to the winners.

The singing of the “Ode to Fellowship” opened the meeting. Mrs Leo Johansen gave a report on the half-yearly council meeting held in Eketahuna last month. Mr Scott demonstrated the art of cane plaiting for trays and baskets, for which he was heartily thanked. The competition results were: — Points competition (bead-work bag), Miss Jean Sorensen; bloom from own garden, Mrs Davies 1, Mrs Hobbs 2. Final arrangements for the eighth birthday, were completed. The hostesses were Mrs R. J. Smith and Miss Florence Smith.

The singing of the National Anthem closed the meeting.
