CHESS CLUB

FORMATION AT' WAIRARAPA . COLLEGE. Considerable interest and enthusiasm is being shown in the Chess club formed at Wairarapa College, largely as a result of the efforts of Mr H. P. Glen. Between 30 and 40 boys have taken up the game. In its initial stages the club carried on under some difficulty on account of having no equipment, but thanks to the generosity of several well-wishers chess sets were loaned to the club by Messrs H. Mackenzie Douglas. R. Soughtton (Martinborough), and A. E. Clemas, to whom the club is deeply indebted. A supply of six sets has now come to hand from France, and the activities of the club are on an established footing. Championship contests have been held, the winners being: Senior. R. Lewis: runner-up: C. Clemas: junior, D. Ranston: runner-up, R Gill. Mr W. Nops has generously assisted the club, as the result of which a furter supply of sets is being secured.
