JUNIOR TENNIS
ARRANGEMENTS FOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. .
(By‘ Telegraph—Press Association.) WANGANUI, December 8
Already arrangements for the twentieth junior New Zealand lawn tennis championships are under way in Wanganui, and the Wanganui Lawn Tennis Association, which is managing the event, has elected sub-committees. Though the entries for the event do not come direct to the Wanganui association, it is expected that if the normal response is made there will be 80 to 100 entrants for the junior titles. The. tournament will be played on the Wanganui club’s courts on January 18,. 19, 20, and 21, and there are seven sections for competition.
The general sub-committee comprises Messrs N. B. Barkman, M. L. Lampe, and A. W. J. Peacock, and the billeting sub-committee is Messrs G. H. Pownall, D. W. Earle, and D. G. O’Toole. Billeting will be arranged as soon as the requirements of the visiting players are known and already applications for accommodation have been received from as far south as Christchurch and as far north as Auckland. This will be the first time that the junior national championships have been held in Wanganui and strong local support is expected. In some cases several players from the same school are entering and the competition and experience for the local entrants should be valuable.
