TRUST AFFAIRS
BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. PRIMARY SCHOOLS LIBRARY. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust was held last night. Mr E. G. Eton (acting-chairman) presiding. There were also present: Messrs J. Macfarlane Laing, H. H. Daniell, A. Owen Jones, C. E. Grey, J. H. Handyside, R. Krahagen and W. H. Jackson. An apology for absence was received from Mr fj. P. Hugo.
The Masterton Savage Club forwarded a donation of £6 14s 9d, being the net proceeds of a concert held recently, towards the cost of further stage furnishings. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the Savage Club for its donation.
An application was made by the Mo Katoa Scout Committee for a grant of £6 to cover the cost of transport to Eketahuna, to enable the troop to participate in a Scout rally to be held there. It was decided to make a donation of £3. The Masterton Head Teachers’ Association wrote applying for a grant to enable it to purchase new books for the library. After a brief discussion i was decided that the Trustees were in full sympathy with the library scheme and that when funds were available assistance would be given, provided the library was put in order to the satisfaction of the Trustees and that it did not contain books of fiction only. Mr J. Robertson, M.P., advised that he was making representations’ to the P. and T. Department regarding the Opera House telephone. The Masterton Borough Council wrote accepting the offer of the Trust to donate several framed enlargements of, early settlers to the council. In reply to the Masterton Borough Council, which asked ’ if the Trust could make the old Technical School building available to the borough, a a nominal rental, for the purpose of a museum, the Trust advised that it was not in a position to consider the request meantime.
A request for financial assistance was received from the Masterton Primary Schools’ Sports Association. The Trust regretted that it was unable tc assist the association.
It was decided to close the Trust offices from December 23 until January
The treasurer reported a credit baL ance of £407 17s 9d. Accounts totalling £2B 3s 9d were passed.
