General situation: The northern extension of yesterday’s depression still covers the North Island while a secondary is crossing the South; in the meantime, pressure has again fallen rapidly over Tasmania preventing the expected general southerly change. Forecast: Moderate to strong winds between north and west rising at times to gale about Cook Straits. Weather cloudy to overcast, with rain probable but improving tomorrow; temperatures mild to moderate.
