RIBBENTROP’S VISIT
CONVERSATIONS CONTINUED IN PARIS NO SUPPORT FOR ITALIAN ASPIRATIONS. DOUBTS AS TO SCOPE OF PACT. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. PARIS, December 7. Further conversations between the French and German Foreign Secretaries are to take place today. Herr von Ribbentrop will also visit German centres in Paris and lay a wreath on the unknown warrior’s grave. He will dine at the German Embassy this evening and will return to Germany tomorrow.
Numerous reports from well-inform-ed quarters confirm the report that Herr von Ribbentrop indicated to M. Bonnet that Germany will not support Italian aspirations in Tunisia and Corsica.
The French Press generally praises the no-war pact and emphasises the importance of the recognition of the frontiers, but several commentators doubt the real meaning of the clause relating to mutual problems and their being conditional on relations with third powers. COLONIES QUESTION. CLAIMS NOT ABANDONED. LONDON, December 5. "The Times” Paris correspondent points out that the Franco-German declaration is not interpretable as an abandonment of German colonial claims. Supporting that view, the “Daily Mail’s” Berlin correspondent quotes-an official spokesman as stating that the settlement of the Franco-German frontier is final but that the declaration does not concern the French colonies. NAZI PRESS PLEASED. BERLIN, December 7. The Press lauds the agreement, pointing out that it does not enfeeble the Rome-Berlin axis. '
