LABOURERS’ AWARD
PARTIAL AGREEMENT REACHED BY COUNCIL.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day.
Partial agreement was reached yesterday by the conciliation council that has been considering the application of the builders anti general labourers for a new Dominion award. The clauses agreed on are minor, those dealing with wages, conditions of engagement of workers, special payments, holidays, suburban work, country work and the term of the award being referred to the Court of Arbitration. A subclause in the clause covering hours of work also has been referred to the court. It relates to time being given workers to prepare material for work before the ordinary starting hours. The hours-of-work clause agreed upon is similar to that in the old award, except that the eight hours daily work may start at 7.30 a.m., instead of at 8 a.m., and at 7 a.m.. instead of 7.30 a.m. in the case of workers employed at paving and at top-dressing tennis courts and similar work.
Agreement was reached on clauses covering interpretation, payment of wages, overtime, meal money, accommodation, travelling expenses, work with tar, piecework, work in exposed places and the scope of the award.
