The Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, will return to Wellington from the South Island tomorrow.

The Rev. M. SV. P. Lascelles, former secretary for the Baptist Union, has accepted a call to the Baptist church in Cambridge. He will begin his ministry early in February. Messrs T. H. Drew and R. R. F. Stilwell ,two of the six candidates, who sat for the electrical wiremen’s written examination, held in Masterton in September, were successful. Establis:i«ng- what may be a record for brass bands in New Zealand, MW. A. Chambers, president of the Waipukurau Municipal Band for more than 30 years, was re-elected president at the annual meeting of the band. Mi- Joseph lorns, of Nursery Road, Masterton, celebrated his 87th birthdaylast Sunday. He is Masterton’s oldest resident, having arrived here in 1855 — oyer 83 years ago. Of late he has not enjoyed the best of health.

Mr Job Leadbeater, of Petone, whose association with the Ancient Order of Foresters extended over 60 years, died yesterday, aged 82. Mr Leadbeater was born at Coventry, England, and educated at Bollake school. He arrived at Wellington in 1875 and worked in a foundry for six months. He then went south and walked from Ashburton to Dunedin, where he again worked in a foundry until 1877, when he went to the Kumara goldfields. Later, he returned to Wellington and re-en-gaged in foundry work. In 1883 Mr Leadbeater and his wife moved to Petone. where Mr Leadbeater started work in the railway workshops. He remained there until 1917.
