CARTERTON

TOTARA LODGE OF DRUIDS. FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. ("Times-Age” Special.) The fortnightly meeting of Totara Lodge, U.A.0.D., No 3, was held last evening. A.D. Bro Darcy Gayfer presided over a good attendance of members, including visitors from Stonehenge Lodge, Masterton. Accounts amounting to £44 3s were passed for payment, including sick pay £3O 18s Id, maternity claims £l2, and general expenses £1 4s lid. A ballot for the office of District President was taken, the result of which will not be known until after similar ballots are taken at Greytown and Masterton.

The newly elected officers were installed by District President, Bro Hector Bassett, after which they returned thanks for their election. Bro O. Brazendale, P.A., was the recipient of a Past Arch collar and diploma for services rendered the lodge while passing through its various chairs.

Fourteen members have signified their intention of visiting Stonehenge Lodge, Masterton, on Monday evening next, and eight' will visit Fernleaf Lodge, Greytown, on Thursday. An apology for absence was received from Past Secretary, Bro R. Dunderdale of Masterton Lodge for unavoidable absence.

At the conclusion of business the lodge went into harmony and visiting members were entertained at supper. Personal items. The many friends of Mr George Jacquiery, one time a resident of Carterton and now of Kaiwaiwai, will be pleased to learn he is recovering after a serious illness. At last night’s meeting of Totara Lodge of Druids a very favourable report was made regarding the condition of Bro C. Reid, and it was mentioned that his health had greatly improved. Mr Fred Spora, son of Mr and Mrs R. Spora, of Costly Street, was on a visit to his parents over the weekend. He left yesterday for the north en route to Auckland. Damage to Gardens. The heavy southerly squall which set in on Sunday evening, accompanied by heavy rain, caused much damage to tomato, fruit and vegetable crops in the district. Boy Scouts and Cubs. Forty Carterton Boy Scouts and Cubs will be present at the Scout Rally at Eketahuna on Saturday next. They will 1 be in the charge of four adult officers. Lambs for Freezing Works. Yesterday afternoon between eight and nine hundred lambs le'ft the Carterton railway station for the freezing works at Wellington. First Offender Convicted. A first offender on a charge of drunkenness appeared before Mr W. Sorensen, J.P., yesterday, and was convicted and discharged. Motor Cars Collide. While on a journey to Wellington on Saturday evening Mr A. Thompson, of Carterton, had the misfortune to have his new car slightly damaged as the result of a collision with another motor car on the' Rimutaka Hill.
