The Nationalists are facing the third winter of war with unusual confidence. They are keeping the Republicans guessing by bombing first one region and then another. Meantime they are busily reorganising and dividing the old north army into two parts, the first to hold the front from the Pyrenees to the Ebro, the second to deal with southern Aragon and Valencia.

It is authoritatively stated that General Franco has given an assurance that wheat ships between Rumania and Britain will be given an uninterrupted passage, following on the British Note of protest, to which a list of wheat ships was attached. RAID ON BARCELONA. BRITISH SHIPS DAMAGED. (Independent Cable Service.) (Received This Day, 11 a.m.) BARCELONA, December 5. The British cargo steamers Stanwell, Transit, African Mariner and Noemijulia were damaged during a bombing raid on the port. Nobody was injured.
