LONDON QUOTATIONS. BUTTER AND CHEESE MARKETS. FIRM. The London butter market closed firm, according to the cabled report supplied by the Primary Products Marketing Department to the Dairy Board. New Zealand salted butter was quoted at 105 s a cwt., as against 103 s to 104 s the previous week, and 114 s to 115 s a year ago. Friday’s closing quotations, with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as follows: — New Zealand: Salted, 105 s (103 s to 104 s; a year ago, 114 s to 115 s); unsalted, 109 s to 110 s (105 s to 108 s; a year ago, 118 s to 120 s). Australian: Salted, 103 s (100 s unsalted, 105 s (101 s to 102 s). \ Argentine: Salted, 96s (92s to 965). Danish: 122 s f.0.b.; 143 s to 144 s spot (1235; 144 s to 1455). Dutch: Unsalted, 116 s Lithuanian: Unsalted, 108 s. The retail price of New Zealand butter is unchanged at Is 2d a lb and that of Danish remains at Is 4d. Deliveries of New Zealand butter from store last week totalled 1506 tons. The quantity in store on Friday, including 714 tons ex Port Jackson, was 4948 tons, as against 1252 tons a year ago.

Deliveries of Australian butter last week were 2633 tons, the quantity remaining in store being 3448 tons, as against 1655 tons a year ago. The present price of 103 s to 105 s is equal to approximately 12.32 d a lb f.o.b. New Zealand ports, compared with the guaranteed price of 14,89 d a lb f.o.b. The London equivalent of the guaranteed price is 124 s 3d a cwt. The equivalent price of cheese is about 7.73 d a lb f.0.b., compared with the guaranteed price of 8.42 d. The cheese market is reported firm on short supplies. Friday’s closing quotations, with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as follows:—

New Zealand: White, 68s to 69s (67s 6d; a year ago, 68s to 68s 6d); coloured, 68s to 69s (67s 6d to 68s; a year ago, 67s to 67s 6d). Australian: White, 63s to 65s 6d (62s to 655); coloured, 63s to 65s 6d (63s to 655). Canadian: White and coloured, 71s to 73s (70s to 725); old season’s white and coloured, 79s to 80s (79s to 80s).

English: Finest farmers’, 86s to 96s (86s to 945); factory cheese, 62s to 64s (645).

South African: Coloured, 645. Market steadier.

The retail price of New Zealand cheese is unchanged at 9d a lb. Deliveries of New Zealand cheese last week were 13.898 crates. The quantity in store, including 6930 crates ex Port Jackson, was 37,386 crates, as against 31,830 crates a year ago. Deliveries of Canadian cheese last week were 8447 boxes, the quantity in store being 157,328 boxes, as against 158,663 boxes a year ago.
