HOMING PIGEONS
MASTERTON CLUB. TWO TROPHY RACES DECIDED. The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club flew two races recently, from Picton in the South, 96 miles airline, and Wellsford in the North, 350 miles airline. The Picton race for the Sykes trophy was flown irT'fme weather and the birds made good time over the Straits. The first six placings for club points were: —C. J. Douglas’s Red Andy, 2hrs. 27min. 6secs„ 1; V. H. Stear’s Napier Pride. 2-27-29, 2; V. H. Stear’s Welcome Stranger, 2-27-56, 3; W. Steer’s Royal Blue, 2-28-32, 4; A. Miller’s Wizard, 2-29-18. 5: A. Miller’s Kumingo, 2-30-3, 6. The race from the North for the Wellsford Plate resulted as follows: — W. Steer’s ' Landscript, 9hrs. 34min. 59 secs.. 1: W. Steer's Kokutu, 9-35-20. 2; W. J. Miller’s Fair Maid. 9-40-9. 3; V. 11. Stear’s Goleath, 9-44-37. 4; J. Wickens's Lady Lyric. 9-45-48, 5; J. Wickens's Survivor, 9-46-31, 6.
The next two races will be from Christchurch for the South Road Cup and from Wellsford for the Northern Cup.
