ANGER IN FRANCE

SOCIALISTS DECLARE WAR ON GOVERNMENT M. DALADIER’S MEASURES DENOUNCED. PROTESTS AGAINST “EXCESS REPRISALS.” By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. LONDON, December 4. Socialist leaders throughout France, in impassioned speeches, declared war against the Government today. M. Blum, leader of the Socialist Party, told a party meeting that he would not rest till he had obtained reparation for the strike victims. M Paul Faure declared that the acceptors of M. Daladier’s measures were ripe for every kind of slavery and loss of rights. He was resolved on relentless warfare while a single strike victim remained. The Premier, M. Daladier, in a statement, said that, though the events of November 30 legally broke individual labour contracts, they did not modify or suspend collective contracts. Consequently they would not change the material conditions of work which the Government hoped would be resumed normally. The dismissal of M. Jouhaux, secre-tary-general of the trade union, executive, and other union leaders from State positions has angered the workers’ organisations, and it is feared will provoke further strikes. * The Confederation of Labour issued a communique protesting against 1 excess reprisals at the risk of disorders. M. Daladier has requisitioned ships in the harbour in an attempt to break the strike at Le Havre. SHIPPING STRIKE. UNION OFFICIALS ARRESTED PARIS, December 4. The authorities have arrested two secretaries of the Seamen’s Union and issued • a warrant for the arrest of a third. It is believed that the strike may tie up all ports in addition to Le Havre.
