HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
VALUED MEMBER FAREWELLED. (“Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the Horticultural Society was held at Mrs Algal - William’s residence on Wednesday night. Mrs A. Williams occupied the chair and others present were: Mesdames Luke Smith. Carter, Tutbury, Archie Clark, Ritchie, Carlyon, Yule, McKenzie, Rea, Lawson, Wakely, Lowell, Misses Card, Viles, Messrs Kibblewhite, Carter, Yule, A. Clark, H. Clark, Carter and Rea. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Cundy, Misses Wilkinson and McTaggart. A credit balance of £l4 was report* ed. Owing to the retirement of Mr D. C. Kibblewhite another trustee for the P.O. Savings Bank was appointed, Miss Card.
The society’s thanks were accorded to Mesdames Lawson, Wood, Pink, Carter, Misses Card and McTaggart, and Messrs Mitchell Tait, Arch. Clark and P. Clark.
Mrs C. J. Carlyon’s offer of a trophy for the decorated table (bowl) was accepted with thanks, and also a cup by Miss Viles for cottage garden cut flowers. Appreciation for his generous gift to the society of another cup was expressed to the patron, Mr R. W. Matthews.
The secretary (Mrs Rea) expressed her- thanks to the stewards and members for their co-operation and help at the recent show.
After the meeting a social hour was held to farewell a steward and vicepresident,’ Mr D. C. Kibblewhite, who is leaving the district.
After supper Mr Card (president) eulogised Mr Kibblewhite’s capabilities as a steward and supporter of the socity and expressed regret at his (departure from the. district wiucn would be a distinct loss to the society. Mr Kibblewhite, whd was accorded musical honours, in responding said how he had enjoyed his work with the society, and spoke of the team spirit and harmony which had always prevailed. He wished the society a prosperous future.
Miss Card (vice-president), on behalf of the society presented Mrs Williams (chairwoman) with a posy, expressing her thanks for the work and interest she had shown in the Society for the past three years. She also thanked Mrs Williams for her hospitality that evening. Conveyance of School Children. The Wellington Education Board are inviting tenders for the conveyance of approximately -twenty children from the Tauhereikau Hotel corner to the Featherston district high school, as from the .beginning of the 1939 school year. PLUNKET SOCIETY. MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Plunket Society was held yesterday, Mrs Algar Williams was in the chair, and there were also presnt: Mesdames G. Yule, H. R. Bloxam, N. C. C. Shepherd, G, S. Sharp, V. Bergh, J. R. Matthews, A. R. Robbins, J. A. Halpin. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Quentin Donald, R. W. Matthews, J. G. McKenzie, E. M. Wakeley, M. C. Turner and A. S. Kilsby. Accounts amounting to £2 6s were passed for payment. It was reported that there was a credit balance in the Bank of £53 Ils 4d. It was decided to hold an All Nations Fair in the Anzac Hall early in the New Year in conjunction with a children’s Queen Carnival, the result of which will be announced at the Fair. Mrs A. Williams extended the season’s greetings to members. Mrs A. Williams reported on the recent Plunket Conference held in Wellington which she had attended. The Plunket nurse’s report was as follows: —-Number of cases on books since work began, 808; number of babies under supervision, 58; pre-school children, 31; new cases for the month, 3 (2 naturally fed, and 1 artificially fed). Visits to nurse: Adults, 41; babies, 39: children, 2; total, 82. Visits to homes, 68; miles travelled in car, 609. Districts visited, Featherston, South Featherston, Kawaiwai, Pukio, Pihaulea, Kahutara, Western Lake, Martinborough, Dyerville, Lower Valley, Otaraia. Pirinoa and The Knoll. Vital Statistics. The vital statistics for November ivere: —Births, 1; marriages, 2; deaths. 2. Registration of Rain. In November 4.63 inches of rain fell in Featherston on 13 days, the maximum fall being 1.31 inches on November 2. Personal. Mrs C. H. Rea left for Auckland yesterday, where she will be the guest of her sister, Mrs D. Henghan, Mount Eden.
