W'AIRARAPA RUGBY UNION. MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. ("Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union was held in the P. and A. Society’s board room last night, Mr H. McPhee presiding. There were also present Messrs N. G. Rayner, C. Gray, F. Hensen, K. Reid, E. B. Booth. Q. Donald, K. G. Fairbrother, M. Parker and the secretary (Mr E. McKenie). The grazing rights of Rugby Park, Masterton, were let to Mr C. McLean, of Masterton, at a fee of £6. It was reported that the crop of hay on the Martinborough ground had been sold for £l2, and the grazing rights let for £2. The disposal of the hay on Memorial Park, Masterton,- was left in the hands of Mr G. B. Booth to arrange. The Department of Internal Affairs wrote granting permission to extend the time for ihe sale of Art Union tickets till Wednesday, December 14, on which date the draw will take place in the P. and A. Rooms, Carterton. A number of tickets are still available for sale and enquiry can be made to club secretaries. A vote of thanks was passed to the Wairarapa College Pipe Band for a donation of ;t2 2s. Charge of Drunkenness. A first offending inebriate was convicted and discharged at the Carterton Court this morning Oefore Justices of the Peace. Road Safety. The Minister of Transport (the Hon R. Semple) is determined that there will be less accidents during the holiday season and at other times of the year if such can be achieved by issuing streamers, pamphlets, and cards of warning. This morning the Carterton Borough staff erected a streamer across High Street bearing lhe sign ,“Walk Sensibly—Drive Safely.” Other signs and cards state: “Automobiles Go Where They Are Driven.” “Drive Carefully and You’ll Drive Further.” “Just One Rule for Safe Driving—Think!” “Pedestrian "Caution Costs Nothing.” The cards are being distributed to the schools. Posters are being attached to lorries and in other places of vantage. It is hoped that the warnings thus issued by lhe Department will be heeded and thereby be the means of saving life. . Personal. Mr Owens of Nelson has been transferred to the local Post Office as a telegraphist, and will take up his duties shortly.... Junior Cricket Team. The following further games were played in the club championship events: — Singles: Robertson beat Larsen, 22/21. Ste.ven and Lynch (s) beat Underhill and Whyte (s), 22/19. Motor Accident. A car was brought into one of the Carterton motor garages yesterday afternoon with the left hand front wheel badly smashed, the result of a collision with another car at Dalefield. The occupants of the car were not injured. Funeral of Mr Lorenzen. There was a representative gathering of relatives and friends at the funeral of the late Mr Ernest Clarence Lorenzen at the Clareville Cemetery yesterday afternoon. A short service was conducted at the residence of deceased’s mother, and was jointly taken by the Rev. R. S. Keenan, Presbyterian minister, Featherston, and the Rev. H. White. Carterton. At the graveside the service was conducted by Mr Keenan, and the Manchester Unity Odd Fellow's service was read by Bro. C. J. DeLacey.P. D.G.M. The pall-bearers were Bros. F. Dennes. H. Farley and A. Hodder (of the Grey town Lodge of Odd Fellows of which Order deceased was a member), and Messrs J. Anderson and F. Dick (telegraph linesmen, Featherston), and a brother-in-law, Mr B. Adams. Many beautiful floral wreaths covered the coffin.
