FIRM ON AUCKLAND
VALUES AT THE NAPIER WOOL SALE COARSE GRADES IN DEMAND. HEAVY YIELD & EXCELLENT QUALITY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NAPIER, This Day. Values fully firm on Auckland ruled at the first sale of the Napier series today. There was a catalogue of 24,000 bales and a full bench of buyers. Competition was keen, particularly that of Continental and Bradford operators, who dominated the market. The quality of the clip offered is outstanding, better than for a number of years, owing to an excellent season almost throughout. Fleece wools are particularly long in staple, values for these are up to 13|d. A marked feature is the demand for the coarser types of wool, one line of Lincoln cross selling at 13d. Crutchings also sold well, up to 9Jd being realised for this class of offering. A good season is reflected in the quality of wools from the back country stations, much fleece off hard country selling to 12d. There was a good clearance and passings were extremely few. It is estimated that as a result of the sale over £350,000 will be realised by the farmers of the Hawke's Bay district. Last season there was a particularly poor wool clip. It is estimated that this year’s yield represents an increase of thirty per cent.
