CARTERTON
CLAREVILLE HALL. ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The third annual meeting in connection with the Clareville Social Hall was held last night, there being a very small attendance. Mr L. C. Meyrick presided. The annual ifeport and balance sheet were read and adopted. The latter showed a credit balance over the year’s workings of £27 9s 9d. . Regret was expressed that the chairman and secretary would shortly be leaving the district and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded them for the energetic manner in which both had worked in the interest of the hall and the district generally. The election of officers for the ensuing 12 months resulted as follows: — Chairman, Mr Sid Fisher; secretary, Mr E. James; committee, Mr A. Scott, Mr F. Morgan, Mrs E. James, Mrs A. T. Hawke and Miss B. Bousted, with power to add. It was mentioned that during the year the hall had proved very popular and outside the functions held by the Hall Committee' it had been let on numerous occasions for socials and other purposes. It was stated that during the twelve months just closed the building had been painted, curtains had been added to the windows and a substantial addition to the crockery had been made. A vote of thanks to the chairman and all those who had worked for the benefit of the hall during the year, closed a successful meeting. Vital Statistics. For November the following statistics were recorded (last year’s figures being in parentheses):—Births 5 (9), marriages, 2 (1); deaths, 3 (9). Personal. Mr Hector Tankersley, Rexwood Street, Carterton, who has been on the staff of C. E. Daniell, Ltd., Masterton, has accepted a position in the decorative department with R. and E. Tingey and Co., Ltd., Wellington. Mr Tankersley will leave for Wellington on Saturday. Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild. The members of the Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild were entertained by Mrs R. H. Every yesterday afternoon. An informal meeting was held and all were unanimously in favour of carrying on the good work again next year. It was decided to hold the annual meeting of the .Guild in March, 1939. SCOUTS AND CUBS. MEETING OF CITIZEN’S COMMITTEE. A meeting of the citizens’ committee in connection with the First Carterton Scout and Cub Packs was held on Tuesday evening at Carterton. Matters pertaining to the advancement of scouting were discussed and arrangements made to raise funds for the transport of scouts and cubs to the district rally to be held at Eketahuna on Saturday, December 10. The committee intends inaugurating a series of euchre tournaments in order to secure funds, commencing on. December 7 in the scout hall (St Mary’s). Good prizes will be offered for competition. BOWLING MATCH. BANKS VERSUS LAW. An interesting game was played on the Carterton green yesterday afternoon bteween the Banks and Law, and after a keen tussle throughout was won by the A team representing the Law, by 5 points. The visitors were entertained to afternoon tea. The following are the players and scores: Law (Masterton), Gooding, Daniell, Stewart, Perry (s) beat Banks (Carterton), Callender, Robertson, Beale, Tucker, 26-21. The following are further results in connection with the Carterton club’s competitions:—Singles, Hart beat Barber, 20-17. Handicap pairs, Harrington and Kruse (s), beat Foster and Smith (s), 28-22; Newbould and Hughan (s), beat Spooner and Riggs (s), 25-17; Lynch and Larsen (s), beat Thompson and Thompson (s), 25-11.
