BOY SCOUTS
MEETING OF THE DISTRICT COMMITTEE. 1 MR J. C. ROBINSON RESIGNS SECRETARYSHIP. ("Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the District Scout Committee was held in the Anglican Sunday School Hall, Eketahuna, on Tuesday last. The chairman, Mr A. C. Pearce, presided. Amongst a most representative attendance was Mr N. C. C. Shepherd, District Commissioner, Miss R. H. Robinson, District Cubmaster, several sco'uters, and representatives from Featherston, Greytown, Gladstone, Mo Katoa, St. Matthew's and Eketahuna. Mr R. Payne, chairman of the Eketahuna group, welcomed the members to the town, this occasion being the first time a district meeting had been held there. Apologies were received from Messrs G. L. Thomas and W. Gaze. It was resolved to waive the levy of £1 from the Gladstone Cub Pack this year, so as to enable the lads to attend the District Rally. Mr J. C. Robinson, who had been secretary since the inception of the District Scout Committee in December, 1929, tendered his resignation at the meeting. The resignation was received with regret, and it was resolved to place on record a motion of the excellent work done by Mr Robinson during his nine years’ continuous service. It was decided to write to Dominion Headquarters drawing their attention to the lack of consideration being given matters in connection with the welfare of the district as a whole. Rover P. Wingfield was elected as Secretary, and the late secretary, Mr Robinson, as treasurer. Mr C. D. Shoosmith was appointed District Scoutmaster, and Miss G. McTaggart, of Featherston, as Assistant District Cubmaster. Mr Pearce presented Miss Robinson with her warrant as District Cubmaster. The Commissioner reported on his visits to various groups. The secretary brought up the question of the equipment belonging to the late Martinborough Group and suggested that the district executive take charge of the material pending the future formation of a new group. It was decided to write to Martinborough. Mr Mackay, of Eketahuna. raised the ouestion of erecting a Scout Hall in Eketahuna, and asked for information. It was resolved to write to Dominion Headquarters for a ruling. Miss Robinson brought up the question of having a suitable district badge. It was agreed that designs should be submitted to the committee by Miss Robinson and the secretary. The Eketahuna committee was authorised to tt.ke charge of the catering arrangements for the rally, with permission to charge. Soft drinks are to be supplied to the Scouts and Cubs gratis. The District Rally is to be held in the Domain, Eketahuna, on Saturday, December 10, at 2 p.m.
