CARTOONING RISKS
CHARGE OF INSULTING HITLER.
EDITOR OF ESCH PAPER ON TRIAL.
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, November 29.
The Luxembourg correspondent of the “News Chronicle” says that, as a result, of the Fuehrer’s being sent a cartoon of himself published in a newspaper in Esch (part of the Czech territory ceded to Germany), the editor of the paper, Hubert Clement, is being charged with insulting the head of a foreign State. Counsel for the defence, treating the case jocularly, called as “first witness,” Mr Chamberlain as currently cartooned with or without umbrella. Mr Chamberlain., said counsel, did not protest when employed as a target. and added that the writ was obscure and not precise because personages must accept-the risk of being cartooned. The liberty of the Press must be respected. The case was adjourned to December 6, when a famous foreign cartoonist will appear as a witness.
