WHATMAN SCHOOL

MEETING OF COMMITTEE.

APPRECIATION OF STAFF WORK. At the monthly meeting of the Whatman School Committee held in the school there were present: Major Ericson (chairman), Messrs G. fl'. Wagg, S. G. Allen, C. Dickason and the headmaster (Mr O. V. Berry). Several accounts were passed for payment.

The inspector’s annual report was presented, and the chairman congratulated the headmaster. He asked him to convey to the school staff the committee's sincere appreciation of the work done during the year and the excellent report produced. He said it was very gratifying to all to know that the school was doing so well. After a brief discussion it was decided to have a Christmas tree on one day of the last week of the school term and to provide gifts for all those children in the primer classes.

The headmaster reported that during the month the school had been visited by Dr. Platts-Mills The average attendance for the month had been 96.5 out of an average roll of 101 this being 95.6 per cent. Measles had slightly affected the attendance for the month. The teachers had decided to hold a Parents’ Day probably on December 8 when the children would give displays of drill and an exhibition of work for the year would be held in the school. It was hoped that parents would avail themselves of the opportunity to see what the pupils could do. Arrangements would be made also for afternoon tea to be supplied on that day. Members of the committee expressed rhe desire to revive the school picnic which had been dropped for several years and after a discussion on the subject it was resolved to hold a picnic early in the New Year. The secretary reported that he had communicated with the Automobile Association with the purpose of getting sign posts-erected outside the school and the matter was now under consideration.
