Boy Obtains Damages.
After a retirement of a little over an hour a jury in the Supreme Court, Wellington, yesterday returned a verdict for plaintiff in the action in which damages amounting to £2545 were claimed on behalf of a boy of eight for injuries received when he was knocked down by a motor-cycle in Newtown nearly two years ago. The jury awarded £45 special damages and £lB5O general damages. Plaintiff was Gordon Albert Steel, who sued through his father, Albert Edward Steel. The defendant was Desmond Claire Williams, upholsterer. The Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers) presided over the case, which lasted two days. The accident occurred at the junction of Manchester and Daniell Streets, Newtown. The boy was crossing the road when he was knocked down by the motorcycle. He received injuries to his right eye. The defence denied negligence, and alleged that the accident was due to the boy changing_his dir- | ection and running into the cyclist.
