SWIMMING CLUB
PRESENTATION TO SECRETARY. ENJOYABLE SOCIAL EVENING. About thirty members of the Masterton Swimming Club were present last evening at the Kia Ora Hockey Club’s rooms to do honour to Mr M. Finlayson, who is shortly to be married. Mr Finlayson has always been a very keen worker for the club and his period of secretaryship will always be remembered on account of his untiring efforts on behalf of the club. Mr H. P. Glen, the club president, occupied the chair. After the toast o’f “The King.” Mr Glen said that the club sincerely wished that “Murray’s plunge into matrimony” from the ranks of single bliss would find him high on the tide of good fortune and happiness.” Mr Glen then asked Mr Finlayson to accept a small token of esteem from the club. In reply Mr Finlayson said that even after his marriage he hoped to help the club whenever possible. The toast of lhe bride elect was proposed by Mr R. E. Barnes, and drunk with musical honours. Mr J. Barnes officiated at the piano. Mr G. H. Hansen, of Pahiatua, stressed the need of new up-to-date baths in this town. He personally assured the club that he would do anything he could to help in that direction. His short talk on Physical Fitness in relation to swimming, the cleanest ■of sports, was very much appreciated. Community singing was indulged in and the function was brought to a close with the singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” and “Auld Lang Syne.”
