ROSES & SWEET PEAS
MASTERTON SPRING FLOWER SHOW BRIGHT DISPLAY OF CHOICE BLOOMS. SOME EXCELLENT DECORATIVE WORK. Fragrant roses and sweet peas and rnany ’idher varieties of choice flowers are 'prominent amid the wealth of blooms displayed at the Masterton Horticultural Society’s Spring Show, which is being held in the Municipal Hall tins afternoon and evening. Appetising fruit, excellent vegetables, artistic decorative work and tasty cakes and other home delicacies add further interest and variety to the general display, which reflects most commendably on the enterprise of town and district residents. The entries are well up to those received last year and practically all sections are well filled. The show is being officially opened at three o’clock this afternoon by Dr Archer Hosking, president of the Maslerton Beautifying Society, accompanied by Mrs Hosking. The cut flower classes, in both the open and amateur sections, are well patronised, the display of roses and sweet peas being most attractive. Another very strong section is the decorative in which some really artistic work is to be seen. Fairly good entries are evident in other classes and the competition as a whole is keen. Much credit is due to the president. Mr H. E. Pither and to the members of the committee for their painstaking work in ensuring the success of the show. Under the able direction of the secretary, Mr E. K. Eastwood,' the detail arrangements proved satisfactory to all. The judges are: Cut flowers, Mr E. Anstis (Lower Hutt); decorative. Mrs J. H. Kidd (Greytown); vegetables and fruit, Mr J. S. Berriman; home industries, Miss Robieson; photography, Mr W. H. Saunders. Residents are reminded that the show will be open this evening from 7 o’clock and those who have not seen the exhibition this afternoon should make a point of doing so tonight.
