WIDER POWERS REFERENDUM NEXT YEAR. (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Federal Prime Minister (Mr J. A. Lyons), in a statement, indicated that a referendum at which the people would be asked to give the Commonwealth much wider powers in many directions was likely to be held next year. He said the Commonwealth was determined to press forward promptly with a non-party appeal for additional powers.
