BRITAIN & GERMANY
NO TALKS ON APPEASEMENT MEANTIME CRITICISM RESENTED BY NAZIS. RECALL OF AMBASSADOR J POSSIBLE. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. LONDON, November 22. Reports are current in London to the effect that the German Ambassador, Dr von Dircksen, may be recalled as a protest against British reactions to Germany’s treatment of Jews. The diplomatic correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says it is understood that some Nazi leaders contend that the British attitude, specially in the House of Commons' Jewish debate, amounts to a form of interference in German Internal affairs which should not be allowed to pass unmarked. The “Daily Mail’s” diplomatic correspondent says that the Ambassador’s recall, if it occurs, will be formally described as for the purpose of reporting to Berlin. Referring to Anglo-German relations in the House of Commons today, Mr Chamberlain said that a meeting between Britain and Germany to discuss appeasement was not contemplated in the near future. The Prime Minister also stated that the arrangements made in Munich for a continuance of the conversations between the British and German Governments with a view to furthering the policy of appeasement were not in any way contingent on Britain's not increasing or accelerating her rearmament programme. Replying to another question on the recent attacks on Britain in the German Press and accusations against British troops in India and Palestine, Mr Chamberlain said: “The German .Government will be well aware of the unfortunate effect of such articles on Anglo-German relations, and Lord Halifax does not consider it necessary to draw Germany’s attention to this fact.” REPORT DENIED VON DIRKSEN NOT BEING RECALLED (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.) BERLIN. November 22. Official circles deny knowledge of a contemplated recal I of the German Ambassador to London, Dr von Dirksen, which the British Press reported to be likely as a protest against British reactions to Germany's treatment of Jews.
