EUCHRE AND DANCE. LABOUR PARTY FUNCTION. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a large attendance at the dance and euchre tournament conductrm ed by the Carterton Labour Party Social Committee in the Band Hall on Saturday evening. The music was supplied by Messrs C. Hewitson and S. Te Tau. Extras were played by Mr J. Blake Junr. and Mr E. Sewell. The Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss T, Green and Mr J. Lenihen. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr L. Uprichard. The prizes in the card tournament were won as follow: —Ladies: Mrs Holland, 1; Mrs Lenihen, 2. Men: Mr Phelps, 1; Mrs Merrick, 2. The capable way in which the supper was arranged was due to the energetic committee of ladies.. , Bowling Club Teams. Carterton Club will play a Booth Cup match against Greytown onSaturday next. The following are "the teams: — At Carterton: W. Steven, Robertson, Beale, Sorensen (s); Harris, Bain, Tucker, G. Hart (s). At Greytown: Callender, Budd, De Lacey, Barber (s); Kilmister, Underhill, Stent, Riggs, (s). Duthie Shield team at Carterton: Boyne, Newbould; Whyte, Hughan (s). The match committee of the Carterton Club has declared handicaps* for the club pairs as under, skips only mentioned:—Tucker, scr.; Sorensen; 1; De Lacey, 1; Hughan, 1; Larsen, 2'; Barber, 2; Riggs, 2; Aplin, 2; Thompson, 2; Smith, 3; Budd, 3; Kruse, 4. Health Stamps. About £2O worth of Health Stamps have so far been sold at the Carterton Post Office. Postman F. Wright has, it is understood, disposed of £8 worth. A Heavy 'Gale. Carterton and district was visited yesterday by a very heavy wind storm, and it was almost impossible for hay making operations to be continued. Fruit trees received a bad buffeting. Carterton Baths. A commencement was made yesterday to fill the Carterton swimming baths with water from the high pressure service,' which' was .turned into the mains yesterday after repairs had been completed to the pipes above the low pressure dam. ( As a result of the high pressure being turned on a few weak spots in the pipes were found in the borough which have since received the attention of the borough staff. The pressure at the borough office today registered 150 points. , DRUIDS’ LODGE. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The half-yearly meeting of Totara Lodge of Druids was held last evening, Bro. D. Gayfer presiding over a godd attendance of members. Several members were declared on and off sick funds of lodge. Reports were made regarding sick members some of which were unfavourable; also that several members were suffering from measles. Sick pay and other accounts amounting to £64 16s Id were passed for payment. It was resolved to purchase £1 of Health Stamps. The election of officers resulted as under: —A.D., Bro. A. Kay; V.A.D., Bro. H. Torrey; secretary, Bro E. McKenzie; treasurer, Bro. R. Smith; 1.G., Bro. H. Murrell; 0.G., Bro. O. Brazeridale; A.D.B’s., Bros. W. Fryer and A. Smith; V.A.D.B’s., Bros. N. Groube and W. Allen; musician, Bro. C. Kitchen; master of ceremonies, Bro. H. Matson; delegates to Friendly Societies’ Council, Bros. R. Smith and H. Matson; auditor, Bro. H. Matson. It was decided to make a presentation of a Past Arch Collar and diploma to Bro. O. Brazendale at the next lodge' meeting. Bros. A. Stretton and A. Dew were nominated for the office of District President. Bro. E. McKenzie was elected as delegate to the Grand Lodge Conference to be held in New Plymouth in March. One member was granted a clearance to the Poneke Lodge. The installation of officers will take place at next lodge meeting, when all the lodges in No. 1 District will be invited to be present; OBITUARY. MRS J. A. McCASH. The sad news was received in Carterton yesterday afternoon that Mrs McCash. wife of Mr J. A. McCash, nead clerk at the Carterton railway station, had died at the Masterton Hospital. Mrs McCash quite recently underwent an operation while on holiday at Wanganui. Last Friday acting under medical advice she entered the Masterton Hospital for treatment but did not rally, passing away at 1 o’clock yesterday afternoon. The late Mrs McCash was the youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Morrison, very old residents of Kai Iwi, Wanganui, and was 28 years of age. The funeral will take place at Wanganui on Wednesday. Very general sympathy will be expressed to the husband and relatives in their sad loss.
