JEWS FOR AUSTRALIA
ANXIOUS FOR A CHANCE OF LIFE EXPERIENCE UNDER NAZI TYRANNY. MANY GERMANS SYMPATHETIC BUT AFRAID. By Telegraph—Press Associauon —Copyright. MONTREAL. November 21. One hundred and fifty-four Austrian Jews bound for .Australia, pathetically anxious for a chance of life "down under” went direct from the boat to a special train today which is taking them across Canada. They are mostly business and professional men. Some of them are penniless. They refused to give their names, fearing reprisals, but related their experiences in concentration camps. Some said that they were sent to the camps for two years, for merely crossing the street against the yellow light. They added that many Germans were sympathetic but feared to help. Thirty-five meetings throughout Canada today united in urging the Government to admit refugees in large numbers. MIGRATION PLANS. APPLICATIONS TO LATIN REPUBLICS. LONDON, November 20. The Berlin correspondent of the British United Press learns from a well-informed private quarter that the German Government is negotiating with Central and South American countries for admission of Jews. It is understood that representations were favourably received, specially by San Domingo.
