STATE OF STOCK MARKETS IN LONDON SOME UNSETTLING FACTORS. REACTIONS TO POLITICAL DEVELOPMENTS. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.20 a.m.) LONDON, November 18. The stock markets, after an unsettled week, opening under a severe reaction to the international situation, are considerably encouraged as a result of the Anglo-American Pact, which is viewed favourably in London. Prices closed a shade below those of last week, but the undertone is firm. After the pogrom, the hardening of opinion against a colonial transfer is believed to improve the prospects of the speculative sections, but the setback to the policy of appeasement has deteriorated the outlook for gilt-edged stocks. New Zealand stocks were persistently sold, owing to further falls in the London balances. Australian stocks weakened slightly on fears that a prospective crop shortage may affect the remittance position.
