OVERSEA INTEREST
NEW ZEALAND CENTENNIAL REACTION AT HOME Mr R. H. Nimmo, who was a visitor to Masterton yesterday, after a long trip abroad, with visits to the United States, England and Scotland and the Continent, is happy over the prospect of a considerable influx of visitors to New Zealand and particularly Wellington next year for the Centennial celebrations. He spoke to many thousands of listeners over the air in Britain, Germany the .United States, Honolulu and Suva. He said yesterday that everywhere, as far as he could judge, the reaction to the talks was gratifying.
Mr Nimmo was an official representative of the board of directors of the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition, and also of the . executive of the Associated Chambers, of Commerce, and the National Council of the Y.M.C.A. in New Zealand and in those capacities had wide opportunities of making known what the Dominion had hoped to do as a member of the British Commonwealth and in particular her aim to make known her capacities during the 1940 celebrations. There was abundant evidence of widespread interest in the Dominion celebrations, added Mr Nimmo, and present indications were that many people, particularly from the Pacific area,, would make New Zealand the venue of their holidays during the exhibition period. There was every likelihood that the State of. California and Honolulu would be officially represented with courts of their own.
