Screw a cotton-reel on the end of your wooden jam spoon, then it will rest on the side of your jam pan.
The flavour of prunes can be greatly improved by the addition of a few cloves and a little lemon juice.
A tiled fireplace should not be washed with soap and water. Instead, rub daily with a cloth dipped in turpentine.
To remove the smell of stale smoke from a room quickly burn a few drops of vinegar on a hot shovel. This freshens the room at once.
Keep some charcoal on a plate in the food cupboard. This prevents foods that are susceptible to smell from absorbing the strong flavour of onions, etc.
Warm glycerine will remove practically all stains from household linen, if left to soak in it for a couple of hours. Rinse thoroughly in two or three lots of luke-warm water.
