KEROSENE POISONING

DEATH OF PUKIO CHILD. A verdict of death by misadventure, from the effects of kerosene poisoning, was returned by the Coroner, Mr E. G. Eton, at the resumed inquest yesterday afternoon concerning the death of Mervyn John Fhitey, 14-months-old child of Mr and Mrs J. Flutey, of Pukio, Featherston. Medical evidence was given by Dr 3 Archer Hosking, who stated that the 3 child was admitted to the Masterton e Hospital at about midday on Noceme ber 12, in an unconscious condition. I The child died about an hour later. The - mother, who accompanied the child, r stated that it had drank some kerosene f but how much she did not know. The child, in his opinion, died from shock j due to kerosene poisoning, the sympe toms being in keeping with poisoning - by this substance, which in the case a of young people might cause death very quickly. The usual remedies were s applied but the child was too collapsed s for any good to be done. The child was e otherwise healthy and sturdy. Evidence had already been given by ;- the mother as to how the accident had e occurred and regarding the child’s admission to hospital. Senior-Sergeant G. •- A. Doggett stated that police inquiries o had confirmed the evidence given by n the mother.
