AKITIO COUNTY COUNCIL. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Akitio County Council a letter was received from the Public Works Department stating that the grant of £lOOO on the Supplementary Estimates for m’etalling Waihoki Road was on a £2 for £1 not £1 for £l. The chairman (Mr C. P. Hunter) stated that the difficulty was that no provision had been made in the estimates. Provision could be made in next year’s estimates for the work. It was decided to increase the ranger’s salary to £275 per annum. In connection with a letter from the Department of Internal Affairs regarding the appointment of a district committee relative to the Physical Welfare and Recreation Act, 1937, it was decided to favour the setting up of a district committee. The tender of T. Mair, of Dannevirke, for 775 dog collars was accepted by the council, the price being £2l 2s sd. It was decided to connect eight of the council’s buildings and houses with the electric system.
