TODAY’S PLAY SILK DEFEATS BENNIE. IN AMATEUR QUARTER FINALS. DUNEDIN, This Day. The greens were showing spongy patches after overnight rain. Play commenced at 9.30 o’clock, when Fuller and Murray set out on the first 18 holes in the professional semi-final. They were followed by Guy, the Poverty Bay “smiter,” and Sherriff. and his sound stroke technique gives a hint of a bright future. In the quarter-finals of the amateur championship Silk beat Bennie 4 and 3, and P. G. F. Smith beat Matheson 4 and 3; Reilly beat Glading, 4 and 3; and Ussher beat Pollock.
