MEETING OF WAIRARAPA BOARD. EKETAHUNA DISTRICT NURSE. The chairman, Mr H. H. Mawley, presided at the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board, held today. Others present were: Messrs F. E. Bolton, I. McLeod, P. R. Welch, W. Britland, H. Thomas, C. T. Richardson, Arch Clark, D. MpGregor, A. Forsberg, Mrs S. Fletcher, Misses H. Card and C. McKenny. An apology for absence was received from Messrs F. Court, W. I. Armstrong, J. F. Thompson and Mrs J. Robertson. The Minister of Health wrote approving of the appointment of Miss M. Barnett as Matron of the Master.ton Hospital. A firm of solicitors advised that the Trustees of the Eketahuna Cottage Hospital Fund would hand over the balance of funds in hand on condition that the board invested the sum in erecting a dwelling and rooms for the District Nurse in Eketahuna and that the building were held in irust by \,he board permanently for that purpose. It was decided to adopt the suggestion and thank the trustees for their offer. The board’s architect, Mr F. C. Daniell, wrote stating that the estimated cost of converting the old theatre into a dispensary was £5BO. The total cost of the work therefore would be £BOO. In his report on the financial position of the board, the Managing-Sec-retary, Mr Norman Lee, stated: “For ■he period maintenance expenditure is in excess of receipts by the sum of £4470 10s 6d. On the capital account there is a credit balance of £1,332 0s 7d. Bank overdraft as shewn in lhe pass book is £2825 17s and cheques outstanding total £291 18s lid. Local contributing authorities’ levies for maintenance and Government subsidy :hereon received to October 31 is £22,604. The proportional amount due to this date is £26,354, leaving an amount of £3750 outstanding at October 31. The third quarterly instalment of local contributing authorities’ levies is due on November 30 and accounts have been rendered. Advice has been received that the Minister of Finance has approved of an advance of £3500 on account of subsidy. “The following is a statement of fees collections from April 1 to October 31, the figures for the corresponding period of last year being given in parentheses: Masterton Hospital, £3274 (£2387); Greytown Hospital, £2561 (£2075); Pahiatua Hospital, £713 (£649); other hospitals, £2Bl (£448); District Nurse: Masterton £5l £(29); Eketahuna, £lO (£1 Is); totals, £6890 (£5588). The aggregate collections are greater by the sum of £1302 than for the same period last year, notwithstanding the fact that Masterton and Pahiatua are lower than the proportional estimate. The return of patients at the institutions controlled by the board for October was as follows, the figures for the corresponding period of last year being given in parentheses: Masterton Hospital: In hospital on September 30, 116 (153); admitted during month, 145 (117); total under treatment, 261 (270); discharged during month, 126 (133); remaining in hospital on October 31, 135 (137); dailj' average, 124.32 (141.8.) Greytown Hospital: In hospital on Septcmbei 30, 27 (12); ad nitted during month, 46 (21); total under treatment, 73 (33); discharged during month, 45 (20); remaining in hospital on October 31, 28 (33); daily average, 25.8 (11.5). There were 57 inmates in the Buchantma Home at the end of October as compared with 48 at the same date last year. Fahintva Hospital: In Hospital on September 30, 21 (19); admitted during October, 33 (3.2); total under treatment, 5 ; : (51); discharged during month, 33 (35); remaining in hospital on October 31, 21 (16); daily average, 20.2 (17).
