NAZI FEROCITY

| STRONG FEELING AROUSED , IN BRITAIN FAR-REACHING POLITICAL EFFECT. MORE LIGHT ON POGROMS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON. November 15. The Parliamentary correspondent of “The Times” says that all sections in the House of Commons strongly approved Mr Chamberlain's announcement that a protest has been lodged in Berlin in reference to the association of British politicians with the murder of Dr von Rath. Speeches at a private meeting of Conservatives, says the newspaper, showed a stiffening of attitude among backbenchers regarding a possible transfer of colonies. The “News Chronicle’s” political correspondent says that opposition by Conservative members of the House of Commons to the return of colonies has become clear-cut and unmistakable. This is the first result of the German pogrom. Mr Chamberlain knows that any statesman who now took the platform urging a return of colonies, even as part of a general settlement, would be courting disaster at the polls. Many members of the House of Commons say that it would be difficult now to secure votes for appeasement with Germany. The political correspondent of the “Manchester Guardian” says that political consequences in Britain in'connection with the Jewish persecutions are hourly becoming more apparent. Mr Chamberlain is realist enough to know that the savage treatment of Jews has made appeasement infinitely more difficult by weakening his position domestically. Herr Hitler’s speeches after the Munich Conference and recent Press attacks have produced further misgivings among Mr Chamberlain’s followers. The "Manchester Guardians” diplomatic correspondent says that the pogroms throughout Austria and Germany are far worse than was realised or reported. The authorities undoubtedly began them simultaneously on ine morning of November 10. The killed and injured number hundreds. The executions started on the night of November 8 in the Buchenward concentration camp before Dr von Rath’s assassination. What ha’s happened in other camps is not known outside Germany. “ANGRIFF” ATTACK EVASIVE REPLY TO BRITISH PROTEST. DR. GOEBBELS REPUDIATES RESPONSIBILITY. (Received This Day, 10.25 a.m.) LONDON, November 15. The Australian Associated Press says the British Charge D’Affairs has presented a protest to Berlin. It is understood that the reply merely drew attention to Dr Goebbels’s previous statements, that the “Angriff” article, attacking British politicians, was published without his knowledge.
