PRESS FREEDOM

EXTERNAL SUGGESTIONS TO BELGIUM i OPPOSED AND RESENTED. APPEAL TO THE PUBLIC CONTEMPLATED. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. LONDON, November 15. The Brussels correspondent of ’’The Times” says that at a meeting of the Committee of the General Association of the Belgian Press, the president revealed that the Foreign Minister, M. Spaak, had referred to him complaints from certain countries dictatorial regimes regarding the tone of the Belgian Press, with the suggestion that such attacks should be moderated and a consultative Press commission established in Belgium like that recently formed in Switzerland. The committee unanimously replied that the Belgian Press intended to resist all attacks on the freedom of the Press, and rejected energetically the suggestion that they should follow the Swiss example. If any further measures were taken against the free expressions of opinion, the Press would appeal to the public.
