“LOVERS’ LEAP”
+ AT OPERA HOUSE TOMORROW NIGHT. A versatile “mirthquake” of laughter is said to describe “Lovers’ Leap,” the riotous comedy by Philip Johnson which the Little Theatre Society is presenting for a two-night season at the Opera House tomorrow and on Thursday. After a highly successful opening season of over a year in London, the play was transferred to America, where it is still attracting capacity houses on Broadway. The society has taken advantage of a recent influx of dramatic talent to Masterton to present a cast completely new to local audiences. As the temperamental Helen Storer, Peggy Mirams gives a performance worthy of professional standard, while Grace Hopkins, a young actress of promise, does splendid work in the part of Sarah Traille. As Cedric Norreys, who is infatuated with Sarah, Frederic McCallum is responsible for a highly amusing and entertaining portrayal, which renders him an excellent foil for Roger Storer, the Egyptologist, effectively portrayed by John Harcourt. Under the producership of Mrs E. J. Rich, and the supervision of Mr McCallum, the cast has been working assiduously for some weeks, and a polished and diverting production is assured. A highlight of the play is a realistic thunderstorm in the second act, five men being needed to handle the effects. The box plan is at Nimmo’s, where reservations may be made free of charge.
