EARLY ELECTION
POSSIBILITIES IN BRITAIN EFFECTS OF THE GERMAN POGROM. MAY ADVERSELY AFFECT GOVERNMENT. Hy Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.50 a.m.) LONDON, November 14. The Associated Press says Government supporters are very much disturbed at the possible effect of the German pogrom on the Government's position, in light of Mr Chamberlain’s appeasement policy. The results of forthcoming by-elections undoubtedly will decide whether the movement among Government supporters in favour of an early election will gain or lose influence. A number of members have already instructed their agents to begin preparations and the Conservative Central Office has almost completed the list of candidates. There is a growing feeling among Government members that an early election is essential. The Government’s term has two years to run. SENTIMENT IN PADDINGTON. BAN ON USE OF HALL BY GERMANS. (Received This Day. 11.50 a.m.) LONDON. November 14. “What do they think we are, barbarians?” asked an official of London’s German colony organisation, commenting on the Paddington Borough Council’s ban against the colony using the council hall. The council decided that three meeting already contracted for could be held, provided the Press and councillors were admitted and there was no singing of songs of hate and no wearing of uniforms.
