INSULATION POLICY

PRIME MINISTER CONFIDENT. NO GREAT REVOLUTION NECESSARY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Reference to the principle underlying the Government’s proposal for the insulation of New Zealand in the event of a recession of prices in overseas markets was made yesterday by the Prime Minister, Mr Savage. “We have always maintained that it should be possible for the people of any country who are capable of producing sufficient to enjoy a high standard of living to be able to enjoy that standard of living,” said Mr Savage. “It it said by our opponents that that cannot be done. They say that overseas prices and other influences will make it impossible for us; although we produce in abundance, we cannot enjoy in abundance. That is reducing it to simple words. “After all, our job is to see to it that the people of New Zealand are not allowed to go hungry in the midst of plenty. There may be some changes necessary in order to do it, but, frankly, I don’t see any great social revolution necessary at all, and whatever changes are needed will be made. I think it is comparatively easy of accomplishment, and it seems to me that the people of the Dominion by their votes have accepted that philosophy. The figures showing the results of the recent general election speak for themselves.” • “
