WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
SOLWAY-MANAIA MEETING. The monthly meeting of the SolwayManaia Women’s Institute was held on Thursday last. Mrs Munn (president) welcomed members and visitors. Mrs Henderson and Mrs “ Woollet gave reports on the Eketahuna and Wairarapa Federation meetings for which they were thanked. The services of Mrs Groombridge, who acted as accompanist to community singing, were much appreciated. Afternoon tea was followed by a demonstration by Mrs Dagg on wool rugs. This proved most interesting, and Mrs Dagg was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
The competition results were: —Ladies’ dress: Miss Allan, 1; Mrs Munn, 2. Child’s frock: Mrs Cornick, 1. Scones: Mrs Munn, 1; Mrs R. Allan, 2. Fruit cake: Mrs Woollctt, 1; Mrs Webber, 2. Posy (wired): Mrs Munn, 1; (unwired), Mrs Scrivener, 1 and 2. At the next meeting the hostesses will be Mrs Allan, Miss Allan, Mrs Aplin, Mrs Blatchford; the roll call will be famous women. Sewing, duchess set; cooking, Christmas cake; flowers, three roses, one Christmas lily.
