MRS C. H. MILLS

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION. A very pleasant afternoon was spent at the residence of Mr and Mrs C. Harbottle, Central Terrace, Kelburn, Wellington, on Sunday, November 6, the 'occasion being the celebration of Mrs C. H. Mills’s eighty-seventh birthday. A number of relatives and friends assembled to wish her many happy returns of the day.

The guest of honour, who is the widow of the late Hon C. H. Mills, spent a happy day with her Wellington friends. She received her guests wearing a gown of black crepe de chine and carrying a sweet bouquet of purple and heliotrope stocks, sent by Miss Brownlie. Mrs C. Harbottle assisted her, wearing a very smart violet lace frock. Miss Mills wore black and white ninon, Miss Grace Mills violet ninon and crepe de chine, and Mrs V. Donald black velvet and crepe de chine. ■ The drawing room was prettily decorated with rose pink azaleas and lilies of the valley. Afternoon tea was served in the dining room, where the table was decorated with yellow golden gleam nasturtiums. A handsome birthday cake presented to her mother by Mrs V. Donald and her family, held a prominent place with its 87 candles in gold, which looked very attractive when lit.

The health of Mrs Mills was proposed by Mr .W. Flanagan, and responded to by Mr C. Harbottle, Mrs Mills rising to thank everyone personally for their kind wishes. She said she hoped to be wtih them all on her next anniversary. The afternoon concluded with musical honours.

Inness and Miss Audrey Inness, Mr and Mrs Wood, Mr and Mrs Flanagan, Mr and Mrs Colin Mackintosh, Mr and Mrs Bridge, Mrs Bert Lyon, Mr and Mrs T. Lawson, Mr and Mrs F. Taylor, Mrs F. Ward, Mrs L. W. Mitchell, Blenheim, Miss Brownlee, Miss Fabian.
