“LOVERS’ LEAP”
LITTLE THEATRE SOCIETY’S FIRST PLAY.
On Wednesday and Thursday next, at the Opera House, the Little Theatre Society will ring up the curtain on its first public production, Philip Johnson’s sparkling comedy, “Lovers’ Leap.” The society is fortunate in having as its stage manager Mr T. C. Wynne, who did good work in that capacity for six years for the Dunedin Repertory Society. Supervising the production is Frederic McCallum, who also plays the part of Cedric Norreys. As Sarah Traille, Grace Hopkins, a promising young actress, is responsble for a good performance, while Peggy Mirams is splendidly cast as the highlystrung Helen Storer, whose husband, after an especially violent quarrel, took the dog for a walk and failed to come back for seven years. His return synchronises with a week-end visit of Helen’s sister, Sarah, who, because she believes the matrimonial ventures of the female members of her family to be illfated, hesitates to marry Cedric Norreys. Events happen fast and furiously, leading up to a screamingly funny and quite unexpected climax. Altogether, the production promises to be an outstanding one. Reservations may be made free of charge at Nimmo’s, and early booking is recommended.
