AIR CONTROL
PROPOSED SAFETY MEASURES IN AUSTRALIA APPOINTMENT OF SPECIAL OFFICER. ADVOCATED BY AIRWAYS MANAGER. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. MELBOURNE, November 11. The appointment of an independent flight control officer, preferably an officer of the Commonwealth Government, to dispatch commercial planes from aerodromes and check their positions during flight, was advocated at the inquiry into the loss of the air liner Kyeema today by Captain E. H. Chaseling, operations manager of New Guinea Airways. This, in conjunction with the radio beam system, would militate against the recurrence of such a disaster, he said. The control officer would plot the course 15 minutes ahead and this would be a check to any possible mistake by the pilot. After technical evidence had been heard the inquiry was adjourned till Monday.
