LONDON QUOTATIONS LAMB PRICES STEADY (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Lamb market: Stocks of prime now short, with prices steady. Second quality selling slowly owing to heavy supplies of home-killed. Mutton market: Wethers —Heavyweights easier, with slow trade. Ewes — A little better inquiry. Beef market. Fores slightly easier, with fair demand. Chilled beef—Hindquarters firm, fores weaker. New Zealand porker pigs: Steady. New Zealand baconer pigs: Easier owing to weaker bacon market.
The above report was received yesterday by the Meat Board from it London office, which advises that the following are the ruling prices of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of frozen meat mentioned and are for representative parcels of the goods sold on Thursday. Chilled beef prices are averages of the week. All prices are on the .basis of delivered to Smithfield Market. Prices for- the previous week are shown in parentheses:— New Zealand sheep: Crossbred wethers and/or maiden ewes, 481 b and under, 4fd (4Sd); 491 b to 561 b, 4gd (4fd); 571 b to 641 b, 4|d (4gd); 651 b to 721 b, 4jd (4gd). • Ewes, 481 b and under, 3d (3d); 491 b to 561 b, 2»d (2gd); 571 b to 641 b, 2|d (2|d); 651 b to 721 b, 2| (2|d).
New Zealand lambs: Canterbury, 361 b and under, not quoted (7Jd); 371 b to 421 b, not quoted (7gd); 431 b to 501 b, not quoted, second quality, average about 31 lb; 6|d (6fd). Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents, dated November 10. Frozen meat quotations (prices on a “delivered” basis, i.e., including storage charges, cartage, market tolls, etc.):—North Island 2nd quality lambs, av. 30/311bs, 6£d per lb; best North Island wether sheep, under 481bs, per lb; 48/561bs, 4 3-8 d; 56/641bs, 4Jd; 64/721bs, 4Ad. North Island ewes, under 481bs, 3d per lb; 48/56’s, 23d; 56/64’s 2£d; 64/72’s 24d. Compared with last week’s quotations, withers, 56/721bs, are l-8d per lb lower; ewes, 56/641bs, J-8d per lb lower; others unchanged. The lamb market remains steady. The mutton market is quiet. Prices where changed are in buyers’ favour.
