TROTTING

METROPOLITAN MEETING MORELLO’S CUP. GREAT EFFORT BY LUCKY JACK. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, November 8. A perfect track and fine weather resulted in very fast times at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington today and totalisator investments showed a substantial increase from £64,104 10s to £69,276 10s. The New Zealand Trotting Cup resulted in a win for the Methven, trained gelding Morello, who paced two miles in 4.19 4-5. The highlight of the racing, however, was provided by Lucky Jack, who, from 48 yards behind, and having to cover much extra ground, had the winner fully extended, at the finish. Lucky Jack, who ran 4.16 1-5, was full of running at the finish and registered a sensational performance. The Australian pacers, Logan Derby, who finished third, and Lawn Derby, made good impressions, and the latter is expected to take a prominent part in the Free-for-All. Logan Derby paced soundly all through and was going on at the finish. King’s Warrior hit Ironside’s sulky wheel with six furlongs to go | and both Auckland horses were put out of the race.
