MR J. A. GILMOUR, S.M., KEPT BUSY. FLYING TO AUCKLAND TODAY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) . WELLINGTON, This Day. Since his appointment as magistrate of the Industrial Court, Mr J. A. Gilmour, formerly Registrar of the Court of Arbitration, has earned a reputation for the speed with which he has disposed of the many matters brought, before him, and which has won the approval of representatives of both employers and employees. A further reputation, that of “the flying magistrate,” may be earned by Mr Gilmour, who is reported to intend to fly from Christchurch to Auckland to heai’ claims for an award by the Auckland Glassworkers’ Union this afternoon, this work having been delegated to him by the Court of Arbitration. as' its own engagements prevent it from making a fixture in the immediate future.

After disposing of a heavy list of business in Auckland, where he first began his duties as magistrate of the Industrial Court, Mr Gilmour opened his Christchurch session on October 6, and has just completed a heavy list of business there. He is due to open his Wellington sittings on Thursday, when he will hear six disputes, seven applications to strike out parties from awards, three applications for extensions • of awards, six applications for interpretations of awards, one appeal from a decision of a disputes committee, one application to have an industrial agreement made into an award and three apprenticeship applications. Tributes to Mr Gilmour’s work have been paid at Auckland and Christchurch, and by the Minister of Labour. Mr Armstrong.
