Miss Thompson, of Rongomai, is on a visit to Taupo. Mrs W. G. Judd has returned to Eketahuna from a visit to Ashhurst. Mrs E. Ives, of Waimate. is visiting her sister, Mrs W. Russell, of Renall Street, Masterton.

Miss N. Chapman, of Masterton, is visiting Wellington, being the guest of Miss Kerr.

Dr Platts Mills, of Wellington, is the guest of Mrs R. Drummond, Lansdowne.

Miss Barnitt, late Matron of the Masterton hospital, who has left to take up her residence in Wellington, was the guest of honour at a number of parties prior to her departure, when presentations were made to her, and regret expressed that she was leaving a town with which she had been associated over a long period of years. To welcome home their daughter, Miss Nan Welch, who returned on Friday from a holiday in India and England, Mr and Mrs Kemble Welch (formerly of Masterton) gave a pleasant five-to-seven party yesterday at their home at Karori. Mrs Welch received her, guests in a graceful navy and white floral frock. Miss Welch was in a slimfitting frock of navy blue, with a clover sash. Yellow and purple irises, rhododendrons and lilies decorated the drawing room, where the guests were entertained, and during the evening a large number of Miss Welch’s friends came in to welcome her home after her year’s absence abroad. While she was away her engagement was announced to Dr J. B. Sproull,' of Lahore, ■lndia, and everyone wished her happiness in the future. ENGAGEMENT. The engagement is announced of Leila Cecilia, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs W. G. Beals, of Masterton, to Herbert Francis, second son of Mr and Mrs W. H. Southee, Opiki, Shannon.
