Home Boys Entertained.
Boys from the Sedgley Home were entertained at a fireworks display on Saturday night by the Masterton Savage Club. They were driven out to Mr lan Cameron’s property at Mauriceville, where a monster bon fire was built. The boys, who thoroughly enjoyed themselves, were later entertained at supper. Yacht’s Islands Cruise. Fourteen days out from Nukualofa, Tonga, the South African ketch-rigged auxiliary yacht Land’s End ran into Auckland on Saturday morning before a strong easterly wind. Captain H. Jeffrey said that after leaving Auckland on August 8 the vessel visited the Bay of Islands, Sunday Island, the Kermadec group, and the Tongan group. It was quite a normal trip, the only excitement being when six sportive whales were sighted halfway between Nukualofa and Auckland. Thirty to 40 feet long, they were gambolling about, spouting high in the air, a somewhat awesome sight. In Tonga the crew took part in the twentieth anniversary celebrations of the coronation of Queen Salote and the Prince Consort, Tugi. The festival lasted four days and the Land’s End was given an honoured place as flagship for the gala regatta.
