REGENT THEATRE
“THOROUGHBREDS DON’T CRY.”
Thrills of the racetrack form the background for a dramatic story of childhood friendships and loyalties in “Thoroughbreds Don’t Cry,” which offers an intimate glimpse into both the hearts of youngsters and the machinations between scenes in turfdom. The picture will be shown tonight at the Regent Theatre. Introducing Ronald Sinclair, Hollywood’s latest find in British boy actors, teamed with Judy Garland. child singer and actress, the veteran Sophie Tucker and Mickey Rooney, young Sinclair appears in his first important role. He was a stage star in New Zealand, his native land, until discovered by Hollywood. The story deals with the friendship of a litttle English boy, grandson of a horse racing sportsman, and a young American jockey, the keeper of a racetrack boarding house and her niece. The jockey is deceived into betraying his friend. Remorse, regeneration and childhood loyalty all are woven into the human story. A great race horse, “The Pookah,” is an important figure in the story. Alfred E. Green directed the new picture which was filmed largely at the famous Santta Anita racetrack. Many famous racehorses and jockeys appear in its action. A special Guy Fawkes matitnee will be held on Saturday morning at- 10 o’clock, at which there will be a monster guy parade.
